Before he discovered how to treat this rather debilitating
disease, not much could be done for these dogs except put them on
some anti-inflammatory drugs to help alleviate the pain in their
joints. Because his research is so new, many other veterinarians
are just now finding out about this particular drug regimen for
this so common disease.
Dr. Clemmons' research affects a particular breed
of dogs that is found all across the world; therefore we receive
numerous phone calls from veterinarians here in the United States,
as well as internationally seeking information about this particular
drug regimen, which consists of three medications: Acetylcysteine,
Aminocaproic Acid, and a multi-vitamin mixture that we call Antiox-Q.
In addition to speaking with veterinarians, the owners of these
dogs frequently call wanting to know information and what these
drugs can potentially do for their dogs.
We want to provide our customers with as much information
as possible, so we have a developed a patient
information sheet that explains briefly what each drug is used
for and what aspect of Degenerative Myelopathy it treats.
It also tells them how each drug is dosed, how they are administered,
and possible side effects, how to alleviate those side effects,
and how to store each drug. We have provided a local phone
number, a toll free phone number, and an e-mail address to improve
our accessibility to our patients.
